In this guide, we explain the available options within the Microsoft 365 environment and provide you with a step-by-step process to configure MFA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Follow these steps to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Microsoft 365<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 1: Select your user(s)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, select the user for whom you want to activate or deactivate MFA (for example, due to issues with an authenticator app):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Log in with the Global Admin of your Microsoft 365 tenant. (You can find the login in our <a href=\"https:\/\/my.combell.nl\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">control panel<\/a>, under \u2018Users\u2019 in your Microsoft 365 tenant.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Users > Active users<\/strong> in the Microsoft 365 admin center.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the user whose MFA settings you want to modify.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 2: Change the Multi-Factor Authentication settings<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you have selected the appropriate user, the option <strong>\u2018Multi-Factor Authentication\u2019<\/strong> will appear above the user list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Click on <strong>\u2018Multi-Factor Authentication\u2019<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will be redirected to <strong>\u2018entra.microsoft.com\u2019<\/strong>, where you can enable or disable MFA for your users.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To enable or disable MFA for a user, select the user and click <strong>\u201cEnable MFA\u201d<\/strong> \/ <strong>\u201cDisable MFA\u201d<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Requiring Multi-Factor Authentication for a user<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As an admin, you can also enforce MFA for your users. This will require users to set up MFA the next time they log in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>Select the user for whom you want to enforce MFA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next to <strong>\u2018Enable MFA\u2019<\/strong> and <strong>\u2018Disable MFA\u2019<\/strong>, you will also find the option <strong>\u2018Enforce MFA\u2019<\/strong>. Click on this to enforce MFA.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Additional options for configuring MFA<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you are on the <strong>\u2018entra.microsoft.com\u2019<\/strong> page and have selected a user, you will also see the <strong>\u2018User MFA settings\u2019<\/strong> option. Here you can find additional settings for configuring MFA. We highlight three options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Require selected users to provide contact methods again:<\/strong><br>This option ensures that selected users must reconfigure their MFA contact methods (such as phone number or email address).<br>Useful if you suspect that the contact information is outdated or incorrect, or if a user needs to be reset for MFA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Delete all existing app passwords generated by the selected users:<\/strong><br>This deletes all previously created app passwords for the selected users.<br>App passwords are often used for applications that do not support MFA. Enabling this option forces users to create new app passwords when needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Restore multifactor authentication on all remembered devices:<\/strong><br>This resets all devices marked as \u201ctrusted\u201d by the user. Users will then need to perform MFA again on all devices, even those previously exempted.
